Excalibre 1981 edition: how many tiles?

I really like Trax, even though I'm no good at it. But I gotta say, those red tiles are harsh on the eyes. I don't regard that as a minor issue. I don't know what it takes to think deeply about a game, but I don't want to be distracted by the pieces themselves, even on a subliminal level. So, I was quite pleased to see on eBay some 1981 edition sets, still in shrink wrap, made by "Excalibre." Brown looks like a big improvement over red. I asked the seller how many tiles are in a box, but the box doesn't say! Does anyone know? Thanks in advance!

BTW an option on Doby to change the color of the pieces and background would be most welcome...

I do not know for certain - David Smith will know - but most likely 64.

I'm not sure if they are the plastic tiles or cardboard - some of the early sets were printed on heavy card.

I do have the tile colour on my list of feature requests for DOBY, but it has relatively low priority at this stage.

In reply to your enquiry,
Firstly I am the inventor of Trax and owner of the world rights.
Secondly Excaliber Games right to sell Trax sets expired in 1984 so I am very interested to know who is selling them on ebay.
Thirdly the only sets Excalibre printed with permission are red tiles not brown printed on cardboard.
Fourthly those boxes clearly state "64 tiles plus illustrated rules".
Fifthly you can buy the latest sets of 64 tiles per travel bag that Tantrix Games International has the world rights to sell by emailing me at Trax@xtra.co.nz These tiles are in urea plastic and black in colour with red and white tracks and much smarter than the tiles we used to see according to fans.
Your preference suggests we should have gone to black tiles before now.
I see that Donald Bailey has told you you have a choice of colours on the latest player program and Doby. I'm not sue whether black is available but I will suggest that to him.

I got curious and found the link:

The seller appears to have a small handful of old sets.

For what it is worth I own two of the newer sets and rather like the red color :-). However, I would be curious to see what a black set looks like!

Cheers,

Lyman
