Trax for Ubuntu Linux

I'm considering creating a Trax app for Ubuntu Linux. Does anyone know the situation with regard to intellectual property on Trax? Do I need permission from the IP owner (and who is that)?

Most likely my app would be free. In the unlikely event that I decide to charge for it, I'd be happy to split the profits with the IP owner.

Hi,

At my site http://gnutrax.com/ you can find some
GPL java-source and maybe most important a threat database.

I have a working 8x8trax but it needs a gui.

If you want to work together with me or just exchange ideas please contact me traxplayer@gmail.com

Regards
Martin

Hi Martin,

That sounds good. Your threat db looks pretty comprehensive. I'll be in touch via gmail.

I'd still like to get some reassurance from someone on the intellectual property issue. Is David still the IP owner of Trax? I think I read somewhere that he'd sold the rights to a game company. Will we attract their lawyers if we release a Trax game?

David Smith is still the owner of all Trax IP, though actual sales are managed by Colour of Strategy Ltd.

David says you are welcome to proceed with your plans provided you keep him and us fully informed.

Great, thanks Mike.
I'll let you know if Martin and I get this off the ground.
